a. Scenery
• Coal Basin and the permit area as a whole
are, and occur within, an area of scenic beauty , characterized
by rugged mountain terrain, rushing streams and alpine
forest .
b . Timber
Aspen and conifer stands , including spruce
and alpine fir , are found in Coal Basin and the permit area
as a whole. The conifer in Coal Basin have been supple-
mented by a tree-planting program, carried on by Mid-Continent ,
since 1972 .
The timber resource of the permit , mine plan
and adjacent area(s) exhibits no commercial potential ,
however , due to slope and accessibility factors , and because
