Processing Waste
The faces of the Refuse Pile Expansion pile and the Lower Refuse Pile showed no evidence of
structural instability. Survey markers were in place on the faces of both piles. The slope faces were
grass-covered. The top of the Lower Pile is being used for equipment storage, as approved.
Support Facilities
No problems were found in the following areas: materials storage bench, barrel storage building,
hydraulic components storage, the Sylvester Gulch mine water pumping facility, polishing pond, and
Sylvester Gulch electric substation.
Topsoil
Grass cover appeared adequate for controlling erosion on the following stockpiles: Main Topsoil
Stockpile, Sylvester Gulch Subsoil, Topsoil Piles #1 and#3 in Sylvester Gulch, the Sylvester Gulch
Shaft Site stockpile, and the Deer Creek Shaft stockpile.
General Mine Plan Compliance
The operator appeared to be following the approved mine plan.
Revemetation
Vegetation has only recently greened up on the site, as snows came late this year. Weeds have not yet
appeared. The operator's representative explained that the mine will follow its regular summer weed
spraying program.
Air Resource Protection
A water truck was spraying roads for dust control in the main surface facilities area during the
inspection.
Slides and Damage
Tension cracks have recently developed in the light use road on the southwest corner of the Sylvester
Gulch shaft construction laydown area(see photo at end of this report). No displacement was apparent
on the slope downhill from the cracks. Mine personnel were at the location preparing to repair the
damage.
The slide above the portal bench noted in last month's (April) inspection report has offset the part of
the steel retaining wall in the portal area(see attached photo). Movement of this slide is being
monitored with surveying reflectors.
Other than the portal slide, no significant changes were apparent in the slide areas noted in last month's
(April) inspection report. Dryer ground conditions appear to have prevented further significant slide
development in those areas.
4
