-3-
May 10, 2008
A 1-acre recommendation for the invert pond edge areas will be as follows:
• Shrub Willows, for Zone 1 areas, (a one acre planting) for a 50% willow
canopy is a total of 770 plugs or cuttings per acre on 7.52 foot spacing.
Willow shrubs/bushes with roots can be transplanted as desired depending
on the shrubibush sizes between plug/cutting plantings.
• Broadleaf Cattails will be "clump" planted and/or transplanted at 10 foot
intervals, or less, along the pond shorelines.
• Nebraska sedge will be "Broadcast" at a rate of 3.8 PLS/acre. (gives 100%
cover)
• Other larger tree varieties such as cottonwoods, tree willows and pines will
be selected and planted in accordance with the Code 391 Standards and
specifications and planted at the appropriate distances from the
(maximum) water edge.
As discussed during the site inspection, the proposed island will not be
part of the mine plan. The small wetlands to the east of the tree grove will
remain and the proposed island will instead become a small peninsula. A
Wetlands Delineation Study is being completed to satisfy the COE
requirements so that limited road fill can permitted to access the site.
Other identified and delineated small wetlands will be outside the
excavation area unless permitted by the COE. A copy of the delineation
study will be sent to you when it has been completed.
Exhibit F - Reclamation Map was adequate no comments necessary.
6.4.7 Exhibit G - Water Information
Gravel Pit Well Permits are in process. Please note the attached
transmittal letter to Mr. Craig Lis - Colorado Division of Water Resources.
Copies of the permits will be forwarded to you as soon as they are
approved and available.
6.4.8 Exhibit H Wildlife
The response from the D.O.W. concerning endangered species at
the site referred to the riparian areas along the river as areas with hawks,
eagles, herons and cranes. The pasture areas are open and operations there
will not affect the riparian areas on the river bank. The 100 foot minimum
buffer will separate the riparian habitat from the active site area.
