final design studies , the availability of the following data will be help-
ful in addition to the material data already collected.
C
• 1 .7.1 Site Contour Maps
In order to refine the volumetrics and proper design of diversion
channels, collection ditches , desilting ponds, etc. , the following types
of maps would be most helpful :
• The present 1" = 200' map of the plant and refuse area does not
extend far enough towards the south. This map needs to be extended
at least a thousand feet southward. Such a contour map should
have location of existing roads, channels, culverts, pumps, etc.
marked on it.
• A large scale contour map (1" = 100' or 1" = 200' ) of the natural
ground base of the present refuse pile. At present no contour
map, other than USGS (1 " = 2000' ) map of this area is available.
1 .7.2 Hydrological Data
In order to design and construct all water control structures, it is
necessary to better define the hydrological and meteorological conditions
of the refuse area.
1 .7.3 Detailed Design
Along with the various data sources mentioned above, analysis of the
results of laboratory geotechnicaI tests completed will provide specific
definition of the refuse pile materials. It is recommended that a detailed
design be performed once a final site has been selected meeting the long
range refuse disposal requirement of the Mid-Continent mines. This final
design would provide for a specific plan of placement for operation plan-
ning and would also provide detailed justification of refuse pile design
to applicable State and Federal agencies .
1-19
