MORRISON-KNUDSEN COMPANY,INC.
The drilling and sampling method is outlined below:
Type of Type. of
Type of Undisturbed Disturbed
Material -Drilling Sampling Sampling
Coal Refuse Hollow 6" Dia. 2.42" dia.
Stem Auger Dennison Dames & Moore
Air Rotary Samplers Ring Samplers
Foundation Air Rotary 2.875" dia. 2.42" dia.
Material Shelby Tubes Ring Samplers
A total of 9 drill holes were completed. In addition, bulk samples
were obtained from channels cut into two dozer trenches. The locations of
the drill holes and dozer trenches are shown on Fig. 1 .1 .
Field densities of the refuse material were determined for 21 locations
using a Soiltest Volumeasure.
A detailed description of the sample location, numbers and method of
collection is provided in the Wahler & Assoc. report and therefore, is
not repeated in this report.
1 .6.2.1 Type of Tests Performed
A number of tests were perfo reed both on the refuse and the founda-
tion material to determine their physical properties. The types of tests
performed were as follows:
Refuse material -
• Compaction tests
• Relative density tests
• Permeability tests
• Isotropically consolidated - drained triaxial tests
• Water content and dry density determination
• • Specific gravity determination
1-15
