New Horizon Mine C-1981-008 16-Apr-2008 <br /> III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br /> Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made <br /> during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection <br /> and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br /> storage building (Figure 5), and along the southern edge of the yard. WFC stated that they <br /> would actively pursue proper disposal of these drums. <br /> The facility utilizes Used Oil as burner fuel in the shop. Tanks are clearly marked and the <br /> surrounding area is clean (Figure 6). The bulk fuel storage area appeared to have adequate <br /> secondary containment and to be well managed (Figure 7). <br /> Overall, the support facilities are very clean and in order. <br /> Topsoil <br /> Ahead of the mine workings, topsoil has been stripped back by bulldozer into windrows, <br /> separated by soil horizon (Figure 8). In the "Sunshine Corner" area, topsoil stockpiles are labeled <br /> as "B" and "Mixed". <br /> General Mine Plan Compliance <br /> A track-mounted excavator was observed working on the top of "Mt. Nucla" near the support <br /> facilities area. According to WFC, they were extracting boulders for use as erosion-controlling <br /> riprap in the roadside ditches for the steep downgrade portions of the newly graded 2700 Road <br /> alignment. <br /> -2- <br />
