Ill. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (Division). This processing and loadout site has been
inactive since June 2001 after the closure of the Lorencito Mine (#C-96-084). Ground
conditions on this day were dry. The weather was seasonal and breezy.
Hydrologic Balance
Underground mine water dewatering has not yet begun at this time. The dewatering pond
remains inactive at this time awaiting installation of a pump into the mine workings. Pond 7
holds only a small amount of water, well below the invert of the primary riser. The outlet gate
on this pond was found closed as required. Pond 8 at the Refuse Disposal Area held a
modest amount of water. The water level is approximately five feet below the lowest
discharge point of the primary riser.
al
r'
i
