Wear
Box 1334, 818 Colorado Ave.
Glenwood Springs, Co. 81602
L
Faepy to: 2720
oa~e: July 3i, 1981
Dear George:
I have reviewed your July 20, 1981 letter to me concerning the variance
you need from the~Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division in order to
avoid restoring your Coal Basin haul roads to "approximate original
contour" (AOC).
After the need for one of your haul roads on National Forest land is
.complete, I would like to decide at that time if our management would
dictate a further use for the road. I am sure some would be retained
for future access. In either case, however, I believe the proper res-
toration is to allow sloughing and revegetation as you propose. The
steep slope, I agree, makes restoration to AOC an impractical operation.
Therefore, I knowingly request that Mid-Continent Resources, Inc. be
granted a variance from restoration to AOC those haul roads on National
Forest land. I am aware you need the surface owner's permission before
such a variance can be obtained.
Sincerely,
C/ ,.
JAC G.
