Mr. Jim Herron Pale ?
•
Belt Specifications:
1. The belt gallery will consist of 35- to 40-feet-long sections of
conveyor gallery elevated on bents to provide minimum ground clear-
ance of 10 feet. Elevation of the belt is necessary because the
four to five feet of winter snow depth would prevent satisfactory
belt maintenance.
2. Design is for a 36 inch wide belt. Present systems consist of --
36 inch and 24 inch belts in series. Although a 24 inch wide belt
would have excess capacity for the design refuse disposal rate, a
36 inch wide conveyor was selected to provide additional protection
against temporary overloading and belt spillage resulting from
overload. Belt speed will be + 350 feet/minute. Conservative
carrying capacity is 450 tons/hour or 75 percent of plant raw coal
design capacity of 600 tons/hour.
3. The belt drive, located in the transfer tower, is designed for a
180o wrap which eliminates the need for a "snub" pulley on the
"dirty" side of the belt adjacent to the drive pulley. This design
allows the installation of a minimum of two belt wipers adjacent to
the drive pulley before the dirty side of the belt contacts return
hardware.
4. The belt drive and wipers will be enclosed in a heated house to
prevent ice buildup. on the wipers in freezing weather.
5. It is our intention to vulcanize most of the belt splices to reduce
splice spillage and wear and tear on the belt wipers.
6. The belt will be tensioned by a gravity take-up located inside the
plant structure so as to be protected from freezing conditions.
7. The bents supporting the belt structure will be supported on pile
footings andJor spread footings.
8. The belt structure will use bolted connections between bents and
conveyor structure that will facilitate removal of the belt and
re-use of the structure when no longer needed.
It appears that the 36-inch plant refuse conveyor is well within the
criteria established for minor revision and can properly be considered for
same. Your prompt decision is vital to us because we need to schedule
installation of the belt to coincide with the plant vacation shutdown this
summer, and the other work we plan to do at the plant during this period.
Please advise if additional information is needed. Thank you.
Sincerely; 7
• ---- _
"~~ice Dresident
J:~-:Tu:ne::Ts
r.nC iOjur °5
6
