Lot #: D2L050313
Case Narrative
Enclosed is the report for two samples received at STL's Denver laboratory on November 15, 2002 and
two samples received on November 21, 2002. The results included in this report have been reviewed for
compliance with STL's Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) plan. The test results shown in this
report meet all requirements of NELAC and any exceptions are noted below.
This report may include data with reporting limits (RLs) less than STL's standard reporting limit. These
data and reporting limits are being used specifically to meet the needs of this project. Note that data are
not customarily reported to these levels without qualifiers, because they are inherently less reliable and
potentially less defensible than the latest industry standards require.
Dilution factors and footnotes have been provided to assist in the interpretation of the results. Each
sample was analyzed to achieve the lowest possible reporting limit within the constraints of the method.
In some cases, due to interferences or analytes present at concentrations above the linear calibration
curve, samples were diluted. For diluted samples, the reporting limits are adjusted relative to the dilution
required.
STL utilizes USEPA approved methods in all analytical work. The samples presented in this report were
analyzed for the parameters listed on the analytical methods summary page in accordance with the
methods indicated. A summary of quality control parameters is provided below.
This report shall not be reproduced except in full, without the written approval of the laboratory
Quality Control Summary for Lot D2L050313
Sample Receiving
The samples were received at temperatures of 13.4°C and 16.2°C. The sample containers were
received in acceptable condition.
With the exception of total extractable hydrocarbons (DRO) by method 8015B and dioxin/furan
analysis by method 8290, all analysis was perforn~ed on the extract produced from the Synthetic
Precipitation Leaching Procedure (SPLP). ~~-
Dioxin and fiiran analysis was subcontracted to STL Sacramento located at 880 Riverside Parkway,
West Sacramento, CA 95605 (916) 373-5600. This analysis was logged in and will be reported under
STL Denver lot number D2L050322.
SPLP Volatile GC/MS Analysis, Method SW-846 8260B/1312
Chlorobenzene, chloromethane and toluene were detected in the Method Blank at a concentration
below the reporting limit but above the method detection limit (prep batch 2353578). The method
Blank is still considered under control. All associated positive sample results are qualified with a "J"
on the analytical report.
The recovery for the surrogate dibromofluoromethane failed control limits in the SPLP leachate
generated for all of the samples. The raw data shows clear evidence of matrix interference. The
associated LCS and MB samples were in control; therefore no corrective action was taken.
No other anomalies were observed.
2
