Mr. Berhan Keffelew
April 9, 2008
Page 2
The TR 50 request included the connection and operation of askid-mounted set of five
(5) carbon columns and barren solution tank in order to temporarily increase the flow of
pregnant solution being treated by carbon recovery at the ADR.
TR 51 requested the addition of a sixth sediment collection pond (Pond 0) and an
increase in the size of the transmittal channel at the Carlton Tunnel Portal. In addition,
an HDPE pipe was installed to convey water from our flume location to the county road,
thus eliminating the open flow of water down the hillside to the county road.
Enhancement and general maintenance of stormwater control features continued in
2007. Remaining Amendment No. 8 activities will continue throughout 2008 and
beyond.
Reclamation in 2007 consisted of reclamation of the historic Independence Tailings
area. This consisted of approximately eight acres of tailings deposition which were
regarded and capped with durable material to prevent erosion. No growth medium was
added, but the area was hydroseeded and hydromulched. In addition a rock underdrain
was placed prior to recontouring to provide a flowpath for continued drainage coming
through the. reclaimed tails. This project was completed outside the Cresson Project
boundary.
A second project consisted of removal of the Victor Pad solution ponds. Two ponds in
the Victor Pad area had the liner folded in and were covered with the Victor Pad
material. These areas were not seeded in 2007, but will be in 2008. One pond had the
liner folded in and buried on one end but the other portion retained for a stormwater
pond. The slopes of this pond were hydroseeded and hydromulched. The seeded area
of the pond slopes was approximately one acre. In addition, Ponds 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and
11 (associated with Pads 3 and 4) had the liners folded in and have been backfilled.
Pad 4 has been largely mined through and this may continue in 2008. Pad 3 is being
utilized for blast hole stemming material and will continue in 2008.
Weed control techniques were implemented within the Cresson Project area in 2007
and will continue in 2008.
Per the requirements of C.R.S. 34-32-116(3), and C.R.S. 34-32.5-116(3)(a):
Reclamation accomplished to date: Approximately 257.5 acres
Reclamation accomplished during the preceding year: Approximately one acre of
disturbance associated with the Cresson Project (Victor Ponds) was reclaimed in 2007
as described above.
