4 of 109
1 Boyd's side roll sprinkler efficiency schedule of 13 days watering per 15 day
cycle. In other words, the ditch needed to flow only 26 out of 30 days at needed
capacity to count.
8. There are 3,250 total shares of CCC water in the system.
' 9. Mr. Jim Boyd from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) did a
detailed side roll sprinkler design calculation for the Morgan family on March 3,
2008. The scope of the study was to utilize 50 shares of Leased CCC water
shares to Western Fuels-Colorado (WFC) to maximize the number of Irrigated
Pasture (IP) acres. The vegetation on the IP is to be an alfalfa variety and the
soil is Prime Farmland soil of approximate 48inch thick. Jim came up with a
good design that called for 0.50CFS of water per 1,280ft long side roll, 6.5gpm
per sprinkler nozzle; 40psi water pressure, 23 hour sets and 13days out of 15
scheduled days of watering. Jim figured that each side roll would need 0.50CFS
of water and he assumed 50 shares was an equivalent of 1.50 CFS. Thus, three
(3) side rolls could be operated continuously in 23hr per day sets 13 out of 15
days and cover 23.5acres per side roll for a total of 70.5acres.
10. Morgan's 50 leased shares = 50/3250 "100% = 1.538% of the quantity of water
flowing down the Ditch.
Findings of the Colorado Cooperative Company Ditch (Highline Canal Diversion) and that
structures ability to provide a 50 shares or 1.50CFS flow to the Morgan Irrigated
Cropland Fields.
1 1. In late April of each year, water is diverted from the San Miguel River, down the
CCC Ditch (Highline Canal) to First and Second Park. This partial flow is used to
settle the ditch banks and to flush out any accumulation of leaves, branches and
other debris that has accumulated with in the ditch from the previous season.
2. For the month of May, between 1997 and 2007, there was only one (1) month or
26+ days that had sufficient water to provide a continuous 1.50CFS (50 shares
equivalent) or more to the Morgans.
