ROBERT ~. HUZJAK, P.E.
PRESIDENT
BACKGROUND
Mr. Huzjak specializes in dam, reservoir, and water supply engineering, geotechnical
engineering, and project management. With more than 24 years of experience, he has
participated in more than 600 civil, geotechnical, and water resources projects in a variety
of geologic environments in the west and mid~uvestem United States. He has successfully
led small to large multi-disciplined water reservoirs and heavy civil planning, permitting,
design, and construction projects with professional services budgets as large as $7 million.
Projects include embankment, concrete, and tailings dams; gravel pits; riverfront facilities;
landfills; deep excavations; tied-back walls; geotextile and geogrid reinforced walls and
steep slopes; residential, commercial, and industrial developments; landslide evaluation and
stabilization; pavements, roads, and bridges; bored and driven-pile foundations; construction
and permanent dewatering; and waste impoundments. Mr. Huzjak had a leadership role in
the permitting, planning, design, rehabilitation, and construction of water resources projects
and dams with construction costs from less than $0.05 million to over $600 million.
EDUCATION
M.S., Civil Engineering (Geotechnical), University of Colorado, Denver, 1988
B.S., Civil Engineering Technology, Youngstown State University, Ohio, 1982
PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION
Registered Professional Engineer: Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky,
Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Utah, Wyoming
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
RUETE;R-HESS DAM AND RESERVOIR ENLARGEMENT, DOUGLAS COUNTY, COLORADO, FOR
PARKER WATER 8a SANITATION D~TRICT. Project Manager/Chief Engineer for the
enlargement of Rueter-Hess Dam. Final design of the enlargement is being performed
concurrent with construction of the initial dam. The zoned earthen dam will be raised 61
feet, resulting in an ultimate dam height of 196 feet, the crest length wilt be about 7,500
feet, and the embankment will contain about 16 million cubic yards of fill. Managed
expediting design and obtaining approval from the regulatory agencies to expand the length
of the grout curtain and to raise the height of the tower to accommodate the enlarged dam
prior to designing the embankment and spillway. This approach resulted in significant cost
savings to the owner because the work could be constructed without demobilization and
remobilization of the contractors.
COLORADO CITY RESERVOIR, PUEBLO COUNTY, COLORADO, FOR COLORADO CITY
METROPOLfTAN DISTRICT. Project Manager for planning-level study for a new 80-foot-tall
earthen embankment dam. Responsibilities included identification and evaluation of key
technical and environmental items that could impact development of the Project.
Performed geologic reconnaissance and developed a conceptual design for the
embankment, outlet works, and spillway. Prepared a cost estimate for the Project.
