Ruete-~less Dam and Reservoir Project, Dou~as County, Colorado iTor
Parker Water b SaMtatton Olstrict. R1H Consultants. Inc. is the lead engineering
firm providing design and construction management services for the Rueter-Hess Dam
and Reservoir, located about 3 miles soutttwast ttf Parker, Colorado. The Rueter-Hess
Dam and Reservoir is a 135-foot-tail, 5,300-foot-tong zoned earthen embankment dam
that includes a service spillway capable of passing the 100-year flood and art auxiliary
spillway able to pass the probable maximum flood. The reservoir will stone about
1 fi,200 acre-feet of water.
During the initial stages of constnution, PWSD elected to modify the original design to
accornrnodate a near-term entargertterrt and to avoid building components such as the
spilMvay and terminal facilities that would no longer be needed after enlargement. The
engineering team worked closely with the State Engineer to obtain the State's
authorization to implement these significant changes on an on-going project. The
enlarged reservoir irtaeasPS the dam to a height of 196 feet and the storage capacity to
about 70.000 acxe-feel The embankment volume (including ttte enlargement) will be
about 14.400,000 cubic yards
Colorado City Reservoir, Pueblo County, Colorado, for Colorado City
Metropolitan Water District Colorado City Metropolitan Water District owns and
operates Beckwith Reservoir for municipal water supply. R1H performed a conceptual
level engineering study and cost estimate fa a new dam and reservoir adjacent to the
Beckwith Reservoir. The proposed embankment would be an earthen embankment 83
feet hic~t with a 25-foot-wide spilhray excavated in the sardstorte on the left abutment.
and a 36-inch-diameter sleet outlet works conduit for both reservoir evacuation and
water supply to the existing municipal water system. RJH prepared a preliminary
quartity and rx~ e~imate to assist the District with long-teerm pi~tning and budgeting
for proceeding with construction of the reservoir. R1H also prepared an exploration
program for the embankment to refine the conceptual-level analyses and further project
developmerrt.
Jerry Creek Reservoirs, Grand Junction, Colorado, Ube Water Conservancy
District. R1H Cortsuitartts, Inc. was retained by Ute Water Conservancy District
(District) to perform final design services for renovations necessary to .Jerry Creek
Reservoirs No. 7 and No. 2, located about 32 miles northeast of Grand Junction,
Colorado. Jerry Creek Reservoir No. 2 is the largest reservoir; a Class 1, 135-foot-high,
earth embankment dam with a trurent impoundment of 6.300 acre-feet (ac-R). ferry
Cr+eelc Reservour No.1 is a 57-foot-high earth embankment dam impo~utding 1,100 ac-
ft. The renovations will provide 1,200 ac-R of additional water storage at Jerry Creek
Reservoir No. 2. The proposed final design requires passing the inflow design flood
(IDF) from ferry Creek Reservoir No. 2 (upper basin reservoir) through ferry Creek No.
1 (Its basin reservoir) and into Plateau Creek via a drainage channel called
Interdiction Ditch, which collects sediment-laden flow from local site drainage that is
undesirable for raw water wppiy.
2
