2
Power Plant. This is one of the main accesses to the power plant State Highway 394
and Itanney Street is a very busy intersection on a. quiet day. If you need the stop sign,
you would continue into Loudy Simpson Park which is used for children's baseball, ice
skatin& fishi;ag, and there are nature trails where people jog and walk. It's not
uncommon to see kids and their dogs walking down State Highway 394 going fishing.
Occasionally., we see people riding their horses on this road. In the winter many people
use the golf course for dross country skiing and in the spring, summer and fall, the place
is loaded with both local and out of town golfers. This is a very popular place, and the
only access its and out of the golf course is State Highway 394, It is very common to see
walkers, joggers, the high school track team, mother's with baby strollers, people walking
their dogs and bicycle riders using State Highway 394. It's a popular road used by
vehicles and pedestrians a like.
Since Craig, Colorado is the Elk capital of the World, there is a large hulk population that
uses State Highway 394 in both the summer and winter. The elk and deer use that goad
daily and it is not uncommon to see 104 or more elk navigating the roadway.
State Highway 394 is a highly gaveled goad before we add more uncovered gravel trucks,
spewing gravel and breaking windshields as they go.
As 1 mentioned, State Highway 394 is just two lanes. The location of this grovel pit, right
on Highway _494 will make it necessary for gravel truckers to slow and stop on the
highway just to make that tight right turn to gain access to the gravel pit:. The entrance is
quite a bit lower than the highway. Additionally, to exit the gravel pit, it will be
necessary for the truckers to go up hill to the highway, and ooze onto the highway going
left or west. 'With the current traffic, vehicular and foot, this is definitely an accident in
the making. At the very least, a turn out lane should be required for these trucks to be
able to slow, stop, and proceed into the gravel pit. And, there should be some safer way
for them to exit the pit to access the State Highway without putting people and wild life,
in vehicles and on foot in danger. 1 brought this up to Mr. Hoberg who is the county
zoning and pl;wming director. He told we that the State would probably not install traffic
lights, turn outs or the like because the State had the oppommity to do so long before this
and had declined.
Because this is a lovely area to live, some of these farms are subdividing and all of those
people and vehicles will join the already over stressed State Highway 394 either getting
into the city or leaving the city for their homes. Craig is growing due to the influx of gas
and oil. Sadly, the infrastructure is not. There is an ongoing problem with over crowding
on State Highway 13 going north. There is no apron on either side of that State Highway
and it is overcrowded with truck traffic. For some reason, the Stare has not widened it,
nor do they have plans to, Before State Highway 394 bwA=es just like Highway 1. 3, we
need to xecorwider adding additional gravel tr wks.
