Cagy Division Director <br />Natural Resource Trustee <br />Re: Moffat County Lyster Pit/Lyster Oil Company <br />Steve Baker <br />Larry LYE <br />Dear Gentlemen, <br />M - d0o? - OCR <br />This letter is ;pursuant to an application to your office, dotted Fcbtumry ti, 2008, asking that <br />you approve it gravel pit on State Highway 394 in Craig, Colorado, Moffat County. <br />For many reasons, we, the surrounding neighbors, oppose this gravel pit If approved, it <br />will be located in the middle of a residential/agricWtural neighborhood in view of <br />everyone. TIe area consists of ranches, farms, and residences in a very pastoral valley. <br />This gravel pit will be located right across the two lane State Highway from the Moffat <br />County Airport. This airport is cued by private and corporate jets, as well as smaller <br />aircraft. Not .tong ago, a commercial jet landed there. We are concerned that dust <br />generated by a gravel pit might in some way jeopardize air traffic_ <br />State Highway 394 is a two lane highway that is the only access to the golf course, the <br />golf course restaurant, one of the fwer dining spots in Craig, the airport, county road 33, <br />and county road 35. Both county roads contain a lot of homes. Additionally, there are <br />many residmixs on Statc Highway 394. The only way into and out of this valley is via <br />State Highway 394. ,A. quarter of a maze south on wunty road 33,.a gas plant operates and <br />24 hours a day, severs days a weep, large gas tanker trucks use State Hiighway 394 to enter <br />and leave the gas plant. Further east on State Highway 344, there are two existing gravel <br />pits which art; not visible, but the gravel trucks use State Highway 394. So, this State <br />Highway sees a lot of vehicular traffic daily. <br />State Highway 344 terminates at Ramey Street in a T formation, At the intersection of <br />Ranney Street and highway 394, there is a stop sign for the traffic moving west. At this <br />stop sign you can either go north into the city of Craig, over the Yampa Valley Bridge, or <br />south into another residential area. If you continue going south, you will end up at the
