Consolidated Caribou Mines
Project /Caribou, Colorado
Dear Ron:
Thanks for taking the time to meet with us recently to go over onr fature plans
for our small, high grade pilot plant operation at Caribou. You asked me in that
meeting to provide you with a brief summary of our environmentaUcommunity
involvement policies. Though the policies in detail would take many pages to cover, I
have tried to simplify them into a sort policy point list for you.
Introduction: The mines at Caribou, Colorado in western Boulder County have
been in operation since 1869 a period of 139 years other than for the World War 11
closure period. The district has produced in excess of 20 million ounces of silver and
300,000 ounces of gold from high grade underground veins to shallow depths. The
documented potential for this district significantly exceeds the historic production
figares. The historic Cariboo Town site was one of the few original Cornish mining
camps in Colorado. Hendricks Mining Co, and now Calais Resources Inc. have been
consolidating, exploring, developing and producing at the Cariboo district since
1971 a period lasting 37 years. Since 1971, onr companies have spent $ 22 mUlion
dollars on this valuable project. There is no open pit deposit at Caribou and the ores
do not require cyanide for reduction. Concentrates will be made from the use of tiny
quantities of orgae!ic chemicals and mining will focus strictly by high grade
underground methods. The rocks and veins at Caribou are not acid generating and
the mine water has a natural pH of 8 making it alkaline.
Environmental Policies
1. The existing surface plant buildings and facilities along with the construction
of additional new buildings will be color coordinated with the natural
surrounding environment. The operations will focus on noise and dust
abatement and recycling will be part of the entire operation.
2. The company plans to work closely with the Boulder County Parks and
Open Space Department and the Wild Bear Center for Nature and Discovery
P.0.
