Species Variety #/Acre PLS
Drilled, rate doubled
if broadcast
western wheatgrass Rosana or Arriba 3.3
fairway crested Ephraim 10.0
wheatgrass
Total PLS/acre 13.3
Mulch: Seeded areas will be mulched. Grass hay or cereal grain straw that is weed free
will be used. Approximately 2 tons of mulch per acre will be applied to seeded areas.
The mulch will be anchored with either a commercial product or mechanically anchored.
If anchored mechanically, the mulch will be crimped 2-3 inches into the soil and care will
be taken to ensure that the mulch is not severed, to the extent practicable.
Methods of weed control: If noxious weeds invade the site, a weed control program will
be implemented as soon as possible. The County weed control specialists will be
contacted and recommendations followed.
Delays to the reve~etation process on selected areas: It is understood by COAG that
planting required for reclamation may be delayed, through the period of use related to the
prospecting activities. All applicable industry stabilization standards for such areas will
be used. COAG is aware that no planting is required on the following areas:
a) On lands proposed for future mining.
b) On any affected land so long as the chemical and physical characteristics of
the surface and immediately underlying materials of such affected land are toxic,
deficient in plant nutrients, or composed of sand, gravel, and cannot feasibly be remedied
by chemical treatment, fertilization, replacement of overburden or like measures.
2. Impacts to the hydrologic balance will be minimal. "No major aquifers are known to
occur beneath the site. Bedrock is a Precambrian age metasedimentary gneiss. When
undisturbed, this deposit likely would be relatively low yielding aquifer with permeability
(water flow) confined to fracture zones. Because of construction of the Argo Tunnel many
years ago, most of the bedrock at and near the FCM (Franklin Consolidated Mine), (The site
of the proposed NOI.) has been drained." (From the Franklin Consolidated Mine Regular
(112) permit amendment dated September 9,1983 and filed with the Division.) Given the
above description and that only bulk sampling will occur during the prospecting activity,
impacts to ground water should be minimal.
