• Total average vegetation cover, for first hits, was 35.8 percent. Total average vegetation cover,
for all hits, was 38.2 percent. Standing dead, litter, bare soil, and rock each had 0.5, 18.7, 42.2,
and 2.8 percent cover, respectively (first hits). Average species density was 36.1 species per 100
sq.m.
Production
(Table 5)
Total average production was 1,281.2 Ibs per acre. Introduced annual and biennial (orbs
contributed the majority with an average production of 392.6 Ibs per acre. Native perennial cool
season grasses and introduced annual grasses contributed moderate amounts (306.9 and 276.6
Ibs per acre respectively). Native annual and biennial forbs, native perennial forbs, introduced
perennial forbs and introduced perennial cool season grasses were also present, each with less
than 110 Ibs per acre.
Woody Plant Density
(Table 6)
Total average density of woody plants was 659.6 stems per acre, entirely composed of native
shrubs. Big sagebrush (Seriphidium tridentatum) and bitterbrush (Purshia tridentata) were the
dominant species contributing 437.1 and 186.2 stems per acre, respectively. Other native shrubs
present included mountain snowberry (Symphoricarpos rotundifolius) and Saskatoon serviceberry
(Amelanchier alnifolia) with 16.2 and 20.2 stems per acre, respectively.
Reference Areas
HAUL ROAD REFERENCE AREA
(Photographs 27-30)
Cover
(Table 7)
Introduced perennial cool season grasses were the predominant lifeform observed in the Haul
Road Reference Area, contributing 30.7 percent toward total all-hit vegetation cover. Within this
group, smooth brome (Bromopsis inermis) was the dominant species contributing 29.1 percent
toward total vegetation all-hit cover. Native shrubs was the second most observed litetorm with
all the percent cover coming from big sagebrush (Seriphidium tridentatum) contributing 8.1
toward total vegetation all-hit cover. Native perennial cool season grasses were the third most
encountered lifeform with 1.5 percent total all-hit vegetation cover.
•
8
