Ms. Angela Bellantoni
Apri125, 2007
Page 3
• WellInventory
An inventory of nearby water supply wells was presented in our March, 2006 hydrology
report in the form of a map; however, the DRMS requested additional information
regarding wells and potential impacts to wells from the coal mine. Specifically, the
DRMS requested information on wells in a tabular format. Figure 1 is a map presenting
an inventory of all wells within aone-mile radius of the permit boundary. Appendix 3 is
a table of well data for all wells shown on Figure 1. In order to inventory wells, field
investigations were completed to locate some of the wells using ahand-held GPS device
and some wells or structures were also located using aerial photography. Accordingly,
the map and table indicate which sources were used to locate the wells. For most wells,
the locations are based on information provided in the State Engineer's master well list
database.
It should be noted that various discrepancies were identified in the State's records. The
comments below provide clarification of some of the well records.
• Permit number 222887 (Chandler Heights Subdivision, Lot 4) was originally
drilled to a depth of 697 feet. The well was redrilled under permit number
222887-A to a depth of 600 feet. This well is discussed in greater detail in a later
section of this report.
• • Permit number 248239 (Chandler Heights Subdivision, lot 1) is not located at the
location reported on the well permit. Based on Northfield's field investigations,
~1~~ the actual well location is presented on Figure 1.
• As referenced in the State's master well list database, permit number 128995 is
located in the SWSW, Section 12, T19S, R70W, which is within the proposed
Northfield permit boundary. This location is not correct. The actual location,
based on the permit file, is in the SESE, Section 12, T19S, R70W, which is
approximately 2,000 feet east of the permit boundary. The well permit is expired
and there is no evidence that the well was actually drilled. Accordingly, we have
not included this well in our updated well map.
c~Q There are two wells potentially located within the permit area, both of which are non-
~ residential. One of the wells, permit number 19878, is permitted for stock uses, and the
' ~ ~o \ other, permit number 13763-R, is permitted for irrigation uses. Permit number 13763-R
l.~ was identified in the field and it was observed that the well structure is in a state of
disrepair and has not been used in many years. Efforts have been made to locate permit
D ~ number 19878, but the structure could not be identified in the field. It is possible that the
~1~^ntn~ ~ well does not exist or that the reported location is not correct.
1~.
~ ~~~~ Comparison of Well Completion Intervals and Coal Seam
\t In addition to the well inventory, we compared the relative elevations of well completion
• intervals near the proposed mine to the geologic structural top of the Ocean Wave coal
