GB/LLC <br />11/2005 <br />CO+MT WY <br />FORT COLLINS SERIES <br />rage 1 or 4 <br />The Fort Collins series consists of very deep, well drained soils that formed in mixed eolian sediments <br />and alluvium. Fort Collins soils are on terraces, hills, plains, and alluvial fans and have slopes of 0 to 10 <br />percent. The mean annual precipitation is about 38 centimeters (5 inches) and the mean annual <br />temperature is about 8 degrees C. (47 degrees F.) <br />TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine-loamy, mined, superactive, mesic Aridic Haplustalfs <br />TYPICAL PEDON: Fort Collins loam -grassland. (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise noted). <br />A--O to 13 centimeters (0 to 5 inches); light brownish gray (lOYR 6/2) loam, dark grayish brown (lOYR <br />4/2) moist; moderate fine granular structure; soft, very friable; neutral (pH 7.2); clear smooth boundary. <br />(8 to ] 5 centimeters (3 to 6 inches) thick) <br />BA--13 to 20 centimeters (5 to 8 inches); light brownish gray (lOYR 6/2) loam, dark grayish brown <br />(lOYR 4f2}moist; moderate fine subanguSar blocky structure parting to fine granular; harts, very friable; <br />few faint clay films on faces of peds; neutral (pH 7.2); clear smooth boundary. (8 to 10 centimeters (3 to <br />4 inches) thick) <br />Bt--20 to 46 centimeters (8 to 18 inches); brown (lOYR 5/3) heavy loam, brown (lOYR 4/3) moist; <br />moderate medium prismatic structure parting to moderate fine subangular blocks; very hard, very <br />friable; common distinct clay films on faces of peds, and as coatings in root channels and pores; slightly <br />alkaline (pH 7.6); gradual smooth boundary. (13 to 30 centimeters (5 to 12 inches) thick) <br />BCk--46 to 61 centimeters (18 to 24 inches); pale brown {lOYR 6~3) loam, brow~t (lOYR 5/3) moist; <br />weak medium subangular blocky structure; hard, very friable; few faint clay films on faces of peds; few <br />faint clay films in some root channels; some visible secondary calcium carbonate occurring mostly as <br />concretions; strongly effervescent; moderately alkaline (pH 8.0); gradual smooth boundary.
