• •
3. Reseeding. mix -The suggested reseeding mix of all native grasses will provide
replacement of most of the adapted species. However, I suggest the .4 Ib. of sand
dropseed grass be removed from the mix and replaced with 2.0 Ib. of blue grama, since
blue grama is the primary native grass species on the undisturbed site.
There is no need to seed sand dropseed as this grass will readily move in from adjacent
areas. In addition sand dropseed requires light in order to germinate according to some
information. We had poor success in drilling sand dropseed along with the grass mix on
the nearby Radiant Strip Mine site during reclamation in 1985.
As always, the best chance for reseeding success will be drilling the seed with a suitable grass
drill into a prepared firm seed bed.
If additional information is needed, feel free to contact me or the Fremont Conservation District
office at (719) 275-4465 ext. 101.
Sincerely,
,---~
~.~ ~X~~
Ro R'~er
Y ,, p
Soil Conservationist
Enclosed:
Soils Map of Site
Map unit descriptions; 36, 64, 118, 124
CONSERVATION -DEVELOPMENT -SELF-GOVERNMENT
E-mail address: janet.barnhart@co.nacdnet.net
