Information For this application was obtained from geologic mapping
and reports, exploration drilling, sample analyses, hydrologic
monitoring results, field investigation and hydrologic modeling. Since
the General ,Area was previously studied by Energy Fuels Coal Inc.
(EFCI), both current and previously submitted data is included in this
application. Bishop-Brogden Associates water consulting performed
hydrologic rriodeling to estimate surface flows (Exhibit K). Ongoing
monitoring activities have provided additional monitoring information
on both surf~~ce and ground water (Exhibit L). The Northfield area was
originally studied by GEM Consulting with topography, vegetation and
geology reports prepared in 1990 (Exhibit H).
2.04.6 Gea-Iog~Description
The following) discussion focuses on the geology of the Northfield mine
area. Surface disturbances will be limited to approximately 20 acres in
Section 13 just north of County Road 79, approximately one mile west
of the intersection of County Road 79 and 11A (McCumber Hill Road).
The geology of all areas to be disturbed by mine operations is
described to and including the stratum below the Ocean Wave coal
seam. As discussed in Section 2.05, Operation and Reclamation plan,
no aquifers leave been encountered in boreholes or monitoring holes
completed to depths in excess of 800 feet below the surface.
Location
The Northfield mine will be located approximately 3 miles south of
incorporated Canon City, Colorado. Access will occur from Colorado
State Highway 115, -south on McCumber Hill Road (County Road 11A)
then west on Chandler Road to the mine entrance. The site is directly
south of Brookside and approximately two miles west of Florence,
Colorado (Map 7, Mine Plan). The legal description for the mine permit
area is as follows:
A TRACT OF LAND BEING IN SECTIONS 11, 12, 13, 14, 22, 23 AND
24, TOWNSHIP 19 SOUTH, RANGE 70 WEST OF THE 6th P.M.,
FREMONT COUNTY, COLORADO; MORE PARTICULARLY DESCRTBED AS
FOLLOWS:
COMMENCING AT THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF SAID SECTION 14,
WHICH IS THE TRUE POINT OF BEGINNING OF THE HEREIN
DESCRIBED TRACT OF LAND; THENCE ON THE FOLLOWING 21
COURSES:
1) S 87°08'59"EON THE SOUTH LINE OF SAID SECTION 14 A
DISTANCE C)F 1322.63' TO THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE
SOUTHWESTf ~/a OF THE SOUTHWEST ~/a OF SAID SECTION 14;
2.04-5 Revised 5/01/07
