2.04 Appliication for Permit for Surface or Underground Mining <br />Activities -Minimum Requirements for Information on <br />Environmental Resources <br />2.04.1 Objectives <br />This permit: application for the Northfield mine provides general <br />descriptions as well as specific relevant information on environmental <br />resources. This information addresses all resources potentially <br />impacted by existing or proposed mining and related operations. <br />2.04.2 Responsibilities <br />All information required by Rule 2.04 has been collected by authorized <br />representai:ives of Northfield Partners LLC. The information presented <br />has been obtained through site specific investigations, monitoring <br />activities, research of available published documents and contacts <br />with appropriate State, Federal and local government agencies. <br />2.04.3 Gerneral Requirements: Site Description and Land Use <br />Information <br />This section of the permit application incorporates a description of <br />mine areas and information on both historic and existing land use in <br />• the area. Coal mining has occurred in this area since the 1800's. <br />Information on previous mining and other historic uses is based upon <br />physical evidence, historical records and conversations with long-time <br />residents. l-his permit area was studied by Glenn Miller of Pronghorn <br />Geologic Services (Exhibit H) in 1991 for Energy Fuels Coal Inc. <br />Land uses prior to mine development are undeveloped land south of <br />the town of Brookside and the unincorporated community of Lincoln <br />Park. The undeveloped land has been infrequently used for grazing <br />cattle. Fremont County roads in the vicinity include 77, 79 and 11A. <br />South of County Road 79 and east of the historic Chandler town site is <br />a housing development, Chandler Heights, comprised of 35+ acre <br />home sites. There is currently no mine activity within the permit <br />area. <br />Land use information was obtained from Fremont County Planning and <br />Zoning, Cit`,r of Williamsburg Town Clerk and Glenn Miller's 1990 <br />preliminary study of the area. The permit area is currently zoned <br />Agricultural Forestry in Fremont County (Map 1, Land Use), with <br />mining actin/ities addressed under the provisions of a conditional use <br />permit from Fremont County. <br />The mine area lies in a highland basin between the Wet Mountains to <br />the west and the Great Plains to the east.
