DRAFT FOR REVIEW
KLElNFELt~ER
January 22, 2008 {Revised January 30, 2008)
File No. 06501 PROP
LJ Development, tnc.
256 North Merrill Drive
Pueblo West, Colorado 8'1007
Attn: Mr. Joe Gagliano
Subject: Draft Proposal
Rocky Ford High line Cana! Stability and Seepage Evaluation
Pheasant Run Gravel Pit
Nepasta Road and US Highway 5Q East
Pueblo County, Colorado
Dear Mr. Gagliano:
As requested, we are providing this proposal to perform an embankment stability and
seepage evaluation of the Rocky Ford Highline Canal in regards to potential impacts of
proposed mining of the Pheasant Run Gravel Pit to the northern and southern sides of the
existing canal. Our original proposal dated January 22, 2008 was revised based on our
recent telephone conversations with you. This proposal is based on our site visit, telephone
conversations with you, and various maps provided to us induding:
• Exhibit Index Map {August 6, 2007)
• Exhibit "C" Mining Planning {January 12, 2008)
• Exhibit "F° Reclamation Plan Map (January 11, 2008)
We understand that the mining operations will occur in three phases, spanning a total of 15
years and approximately 5,000 linear feet along the High Line Canal (indusive of bath
sides}. The expected canal no mining "easement" is approximately 50 feet from the ditch
banks, symmetrical to the north and south sides. Permanent cut slopes are expected to
begin at the edge of the "easement' and slope at approximately 3 (horizontal) to 1 {vertical}
for cuts up to about 20 feet below the bottom of the existing canal.
PURPOSE
Based on our current understanding of the project, the purpose of our services will be ta:
• Obtain subsurface soil data and measure existing groundwater depths. We will also
provide means for continued groundwater depth monitoring by installing piezometer
casings at all borehole locations.
• Perform a preliminary evaluation of seepage of the canal for the proposed
embankment configurations for use in excavation considerations and global stability
analysis.
06501 PROP/CSP8P035
Copyright 20pg Kleinfelder
January 30, 2008
KLEINFELDER 4815 List Drive, Unit 115, Colorado Springs, CO 80919 (719) 632-3593 (7191 63?-?648 fax
