nitrate spike likely represents the fall spike in nitrate concentration observed in the surrounding wells. This spike is
delayed because of its relative distance to cultivated land and the time that it takes for the groundwater to reach this
position. The overall concentration levels of nitrate in this well have continuously decreased between October 2005 and
October 2006.
Based on the one year of sampling and the monitoring wells located downgradient of current mining activities, it appears
that the nitrate concentration level in the groundwater near the active mining area is decreasing. The mining activities
have precluded any farming and fertilizing in the immediate vicinity of these wells, thus apparently improving the
groundwater quality in the immediate vicinity of the mine with regards to the nitrate concentrations.
Nitrate as N
We lls (CRM W) Site/
01 02 04 05 06 07 09 16 40 41 42 Grou
Oct-05 26.09 18.67 6.38 ---- 26.85 27.98 ----- ----- 16.8 12.36 ----- 19.3
Nov-05 23.8 17.9 12.4 24.6 25.3 31.4 U 13.5 15.2 15 6.6 16.9
Dec-05 22.1 14.8 13.8 ---- 22.3 19.5 ---- ---- 15.7 19.5 ---- 18.2
Apr-06 22.2 8.3 11 ---- 16.9 13.5 ---- ---- 12.3 14.9 ---- i4.2
Jul-06 38.4 11.6 4.43 ---- 23.7 15.7 ---- ---- 10.2 13 ---- 16.7
Oct-06 70.3 28.7 14.8 8.51 9.23 51 U 15.1 18..8 13.9 7.87 21.7
Average 33.8 16.7 10.5 16.6 20.7 26.5 0.0 14.3 14.8 14.8 7.2 18.1
Stnd Dev. 18.9 7.1 4.2 11.4 6.6 13.9 0.0 1.1 3.1 2.5 0.9 11.8
Baseline 52.7 23.7 14.6 27.9 27.3 40.4 0.0 15.4 17.9 17.3 8.1 29.9
The average nitrate level for the entire site is 18.1 mg/L with a standard deviation of 11.8. Based on the groundwater
sampling plan approved by the DMG, a site wide average may be used plus 1 standard deviation to establish
background levels. This will establish a site wide baseline nitrate concentration level of 29.9 mg/L.
3.1.3 Fecal Coliform
Fecal Coliform has been detected in seven different instances during the sampling period. Six of these seven detections
were in 2005 at a concentration level of 2 mpn/100m1. The seventh detection was in well CRMW41 at a concentration
level of 22 mpn/100m1 in April of 2006. CRMW41 is located in a low lying area with groundwater located two to three
feet below the ground surface with several houses (approximately 3-6) located immediately upgradient of the well with
septic systems in place. There has been no mining activity within a ~/z mile of this well and potential contamination likely
resulted from surface water or septic system influences.

Annual 2006 Sampling Event -Lupton Lakes -3- January 2007
