• raptor activity has been observed at that nest since it was discovered, although a pair of Canada
geese (Branta canadensis) occupied the site in 2006.
Two pairs of golden eagles were observed nesting during the site visit in late April 2007
(Table 2). A female was observed incubating eggs or brooding very small chicks on one of the
nests in the Section 3 territory. Adults were seen brooding or incubating in the Section 27
territory, but no young were visible at the nest. Despite being active last year, and most all
previous years, no golden eagle activity was observed within the Section 13 territory. No new
nesting material had been added to the nest and no eagles were observed in the vicinity.
Although the three known nesting territories (Sections 3, 13, and 27) are relatively close
_•

together, all have been active during 10 of the past 12 years (Table 2). Fledging success was not
determined in most years (1997-2007), but the continued occupation of the territories suggests
that eagles have not been substantially affected by activities at the Seneca II Mine.
Table 2.
