2/26/07
5:42 PM arrive at site. Sunset is at 5:49. Gate is closed. Parked in driveway facing east. Sky has
scattered clouds. Temperature is in low 40's. There is a slight breeze. There is no snow on the
ground. There were no raptors in trees on or near the site when I arrived.
5:50 There is ared-tailed hawk in the eastern of the two large cottonwoods north of the gate. It is
facing me and is in the lower branches of the tree.
6:05 Red-tailed hawk has left the eastern tree.
6:28 END OBSERVATIONS. No additional raptors were observed.
3/6/07
5:46 PM Arrive at site. Sunset is at 5:57. Gate is closed. Parked in driveway facing east. Sky
is overcast. Temperature is in the low 50's. There is no wind. There is a raptor in the eastern of
the two large trees north of the gate. It has its back to me. The raptor's back is dark. I do not see
any white. It is above and on my side of the large stick nest in the tree. No other trees on or near
the site had raptors in them when I arrived. Tried to take photos of the raptor through the
spotting scope.
6:10 The raptor moved to a higher branch in the same tree. The new perch is behind another
branch making it difficult to see the bird. The bird moves a little ever few minutes allowing me
to discern that it is still there.
6:30 END OBSERVATIONS. I watched the raptor's location continuously with the exception
of a few breaks to scan other large trees on and near the site. I occasionally saw the raptor move
its head. ~ But did not see any movement after about 6:20, when it became to dark to see the small
movements I was observing. No other raptors were observed. The raptor that I watched
appeared to be smaller than an eagle.
3/8/07
5:55 PM Arrived at site. Sunset is at 5:59. Gate is open. Parked in driveway facing N. Sky has
scattered small clouds. Temperature is in the 50's. There is a light wind. There are no raptors in
large trees north of the gate. There is a Buteo in the tree 0.25 mi N of Shell's. There are no
raptors in the tree next to Shell's.
6:03 There is a bird with a white breast in the tree next to Shell's. On closer examination it
appears to be ared-tailed hawk.
6:07 The raptor left the tree 0.25 mi N of Shell's.
