and VII address the groundwater monitoring requirements. Both bedrock
and alluvial wells will be monitored, each for specific purposes related to
the detection of potential impacts that could result from mining activities.
Alluvial well CCA-1 will be located downgradient from the facility area in the
alluvium of Chandler Creek. Well CCA-1 will also be the groundwater point
of compliance well as required by Rule 4.05.13(1)(b).
Due to the presence of domestic residential use wells located upgradient
from the proposed area to be mined and subsided, additional bedrock
groundwater wells are necessary to detect potential changes caused by
mining and subsidence. Groundwater wells SB-1, SB-2, and SB-3 will be
located between the mined and subsided area and the registered domestic
wells to the south. Monitoring frequency of these wells will vary, becoming
more frequent during retreat mining operations that will result in ground
subsidence and possibly cause groundwater level changes in both
monitoring and domestic wells.
Private well monitoring will also be conducted for well owners that choose
to participate in the Northfield water monitoring program. Should water
monitoring detect changes as outlined in Section VII A of Exhibit AB ,
notifications will be provided to owners of registered wells. If changes are
identified by a well owner or by Northfield, investigation and mitigation will
be implemented as outlined in the plan, including hauling water for
temporary needs and well modification or replacement, as necessary.
2. The applicant will conduct monitoring of surface water in a manner
approved by the Division. The monitoring plan was submitted under
2.05.6(3)(b)(iv) and includes the following (4.05.13(2)):
The surface water monitoring plan is included in Exhibit AB of the permit
and surface water monitoring sites are shown on Map 13. Surface water is
limited in the area and surface water impacts are unlikely given the
operations proposed by Northfield. Four surface water sites on Chandler
Creek and Fawn Hollow will provide monitoring data during periods of
runoff or snowmelt. Sediment pond discharges, if they occur, will be
sampled in accordance with the self-monitoring requirements of the
Colorado Discharge Permit System (CDPS) permit issued by the Water
Quality Control Division.
H. Transfer of Wells
No specific approvals granted.
Discharge of Water into an Underground Mine
No specific approvals granted.
18
