4.5.5.2003 Reclamation Area
Quantitative sampling was conducted in the 2003 reclamation area for the second time this
season. The small number and short duration of sampling precludes any observations
regarding long-term trends at this time.
5.0 SUMMARY
Quantitative monitoring of the 1998 reseeded or interseeded areas, the 1999, 2000, 2002 and
2003 reclamation azeas revealed that the all reclamation areas met the requirements for final
revegetation success for total vegetation cover. The 1999 reclamation areas met the total
herbaceous production reclamation success standazd (based on a statistical analysis).
Of the revegetated areas sampled in 2007, the 1998 reseeded or interseeded areas sampled
met the species composition revegetation success criterion. Though the 1999 reclamation
azeas did not meet the species composition success criteria, it was due to over-representation
by a warm season perennial native grass. Remaining areas lacked either qualifying warm
season species or cool season species. Table 1 reveals that the total number of species
encountered during sampling is significant and diverse in numbers of species, lifeforms, and
seasonal variety.
Though not all reclamation azeas met fmal revegetation success criteria, it was concluded that
the 1998, 1999, and 2000 azeas have established a diverse, effective, and permanent
vegetation cover of the same seasonal variety native to the azea and aze capable of self-
regeneration and plant succession in accordance with the requirements of the Colorado
Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act. The 2002 and 2003 reclamation areas have shown
significant development of a diverse, effective, permanent vegetation cover, and aze expected
to continue in their successful development.
6.0 PEST AND DISEASE INSPECTIONS
Four quarterly inspections were conducted at the Keenesburg Mine to evaluate the presence
or potential for pest or disease infestations or outbreaks. The inspections were conducted on
Mazch 8, June 8, August 6-10, 21-24 and 27-31, and November 8, 2007. Inspection reports
from those inspections are located in the appendix.
During those inspections no disease conditions at any of the reclaimed and revegetated areas
were identified. No plant pests were found which were affecting the growth of the
vegetation. No bare areas, or azeas which appeared to be affected by infestation or blight
were found during the inspections.
•
Coors Energy Comparry Keenesburg Mine Page 24
2007 Revegetation Monitoring Report
