(Bromus tectorum), one native annual forb (Helianthus annuus), and one introduced annual
forb (Kochia scoparia). The species present in eight of nine years include two additional
warm season perennial native grasses, Andropogon hallii and Bouteloua curtipendula
(sideoats grama) and two native cool season grasses, Agropyron smithii and Stipa viridula.
The core species of the 1998 reseeded or interseeded areas revealed increases in relative
cover by all graminoids except Calamovilfa longifolia. Forb species were split in their
relative cover this season, with Helianthus annuus increasing significantly in relative cover
this growing season while Kochia scoparia deceased significantly. Andropogon hallii,
Bouteloua curtipendula, and Stipa viridula showed significant increases in relative cover
from last growing season (1167%, not present in 2006, and 384%, respectively). During the
2007 season Bouteloua gracilis increased by 170 percent and Calamovilfa longifolia
decreased by 41 percent. In the 2007 sampling season relative cover for the cool season
annual grass Bromus tectorum increased 243 percent. Helianthus annuus increased 340
percent in relative cover this season, while Kochia scoparia decreased by 83 percent.
4.5.21999 Reclamation Areas
Quantitative sampling has been undertaken in these areas for the past five growing seasons.
A suite of core species that have been present over each of the five years of cover sampling
can be identified. There is one cool season grass (Agropyron smithii), two warm season
grasses (Andropogon hallii and Calamovilfa longifolia), one cool season annual grass
(Bromus tectorum), one perennial forb (Ambrosia psilostachya), and one annual forb (Kochia
scoparia). Several species have been present for four of the five sampling years and include;
Bouteloua curtipendula, Bouteloua gracilis, Oryzopsis hymenoides, Panicum virgatum,
Chenopodium album (lambsquazters), and Helianthus annuus. Notably, the four additional
grasses are all native perennials, while the forbs are annuals.
As was noted with other areas, perennial graminoids increased this season with respect to
relative cover in the community. Both forbs decreased in relative cover this yeaz, Ambrosia
psilostachya by four percent and Kochia scoparia by 59 percent.
4.5.3 2000 Reclamation Areas
Quantitative sampling has been undertaken in the 2000 reclamation areas for the third time in
2007. Ten species have been present during each year of sampling; Andropogon gerardii,
Andropogon hallii, Bouteloua gracilis, Bromus tectorum, Calamovilfa longifolia, Oryzopsis
hymenoides, Panicum virgatum, Ambrosia psilostachya, Kochia scoparia, and Sisymbrium
altissimum. General trends for these species in these reclamation areas cannot be
extrapolated from the short record at this time.
4.5.4.2002 Reclamation Areas
Quantitative sampling was conducted in the 2002 reclamation azeas for the second time this
season. The short duration of sampling precludes any significant observations regarding long-
term trends at this time.
Coors Energy Company Keenesburg Mine Page 23
2007 Revegetation Monitoring Report
