Colowyo C-1981-019
22 January 2008
Pg 5/6 U36
Topsoil (cont.): -Again, given the cold, snowy conditions, the texture of the topsoil at
the Anson project area appeared to be good. There did not appear to be a
problem with Anson overloading their haul trucks, as noted above with the Bower
project.
-Tony indicated that the final number of acres that had topsoil spread and were
reseeded this year was 85.6 acres. This includes approximately 25 acres that were
topsoiled but not seeded last year. All of these acres are in the East Pit.
General Mine Plan Compliance: - The 101 dragline is on the East Pit highwall
performing reclamation (although it was not actively working at the time of the
inspection).
- The 102 dragline was in the West Pit removing overburden on the C-Seam.
- The 103 dragline was in the West Pit removing overburden on the B-Seam.
- The 114 shovel operation was currently working on removing the A-Seam. Thel 14
will soon daylight as the A-Seam cut is almost complete in the West Pit.
- The 115 excavator was removing X-Seam overburden in the X-Pod area. This is the
area at the south. edge of the Section 16 Pit that was approved for mining with the
approval of Technical Revision 65. The operator was also removing X-Seam coal
from this area. This is the last of the X-Seam coal at the mine, as all of the X coal has
been mined from the West Pit.
- The operator had a contractor (Krule) working in the West Taylor drainage, around
the location of the West Taylor fill removing and burning the trees in advance of the
topsoil stripping operations. This operation has finished. The operation did a good job
of removing the trees and leaving the topsoil in good condition.
- Kiewit has completed the large water tank bench and the ready-line for the haul
trucks. Bower had some of their CAT 773's parked there at the ready line at the time
of the inspection. This ready line will be used for the South Taylor Pit, as the other line
is at the north end of the mine. Colowyo has hooked-up power to the ready line and
it is now ready for use.
- The mining at the Colowyo Mine appears to be progressing as discussed and
approved in the PAP.
Fish and Wildlife: - There was a small herd of elk on the large topsoil pile just east of
the work are pond (just below the facilities area). There were also signs of very heavy
use of many of the other areas of the mine, although few animals were seen at the
time of the inspection.
Revegetation: - In addition to the 85.6 acres that were seeded in the East Pit (as
mentioned above in the Topsoil section) Tony indicated that he seeded the West
Taylor Pond embankment, topsoil stockpile and borrow area.
