._ _- The soils composition consists of exposed sandstone and
shale bedrock plus stony soils that are shallow to
moderately deep over sandstone and shale and stone basaltic
alluvium. The soils are clayey to loamy and contain various
amounts of gravel, cobbles, and stones. The surface is
normally covered with stone, weathered from the higher-lying
rock outcrops. The rock outcrops mainly consist of Mesa
Verde sandstone and Wasatch shale.
The site is of limited usage. Due to the stones at the
surface, the rocK outcrops, and the steep slopes, this
complex is unsuited for crops of any nature. The steep
slopes also limit domestic livestock grazing. However, very
limited spring fall sheep grazing may be realized.
Excessive grazing pressure would accelerate erosion greatly.
Sparse trees and steep slopes of the area provide little
wood production. The major use of this area is as a
wintering area for deer. Occasionally, a few elk may find
food and cover in the area. Rabbits and yellow-belly
marmots forage in the area.
Vegetation - Threatened or Endangered Plants. According to
the Bureau of Land Management, Soil Conservation Service,
and Colorado Division of Wildlife, no endangered or
• threatened plants have been identified in the area.
W
BS Revised 5/87
