The sedimentation pond
has had no discharge to date. Therefore negligible impact from the-
sedimentation ponds is anticipated.
The runoff from the coal refuse pile will probably be of similar
quality to ground water in the coal seams with a lower TDS
concentration. The pile will be compacted in lifts and flow will
be diverted around the pile to minimize water contact with the
pile. The ground water from the mine was a maximum concentration
of approximately 1910 mq/1 of TDS, and the pond will have a maximum
capacity of 3,655 ft The maximum flow of Harvey Gap is 80 efs
with a TDS concentration .o f. 330 mg/l. Amass balance equation
would be as follows:
C3 (mg/1} * V3(1) = C2 + C1 * V1
C3=(1910*3655*28.3+330*80*140*28.3)/(3655*28.3+80*1440*28.3)
C3=378 mg/m
r~
L
The concentratin is still quite low so the anticipated impact from
the coal refuse pile is negligible.
The concrete portal structures were installed in 1982. The #1
slope portal was installed in a grade of 20$ down from the surface
to the coal seam. The #1 slope was then advanced into the coal
seam approximately 50 feet in a 20$ grade down past the end of the
concrete structure. The entry was then allowed to flood as no
mining was to be done in the #1 slope for a few months.
The water level stabilized at the end of the concrete structure.
At that time the inflow and outflow to the mine stabilized. This
condition existed for approximately 12 months before the water was
pumped out and mining resumed in the #1 slope. The existing ground
surface was approximately 16 feet above the level of the water.
The reclaimed surface will be approximately 20 feet above the
existing surface.
There is not any post-reclamation water discharge anticipated from
the Eastside Mine. This is based on the past history of the static
water level in the #1 slope of the Eastside Mine.
Even though no water is anticipated to be discharged a 4" steel
pipe will be installed as shown on Drawing 8, Typical Portal Seal.
The pipe will be installed only in the #1 slope and extended until
it intersects the surface. A screw on cap will be placed on the
top of the pipe.
64 Technical Revision 11 2/14/95
