<br />12/92 <br />85--Giarch fine sandy loam, O to 3-percent slopes. This <br />very deep, well drained and moderately well drained soil is <br />on terraces. It formed in alluvium derived from various <br />sources. Elevation is 6,000 to 6,400 feet. The average <br />annual precipitation is.12 to 15 inches, the average annual <br />air- temperature is 42 to 45 degrees F., and the average <br />frost-free per i od i s,. 75. to. 95 days. <br />Typically, the surface layer is very pale brown fine <br />sandy loam 2 inches thick. The upper 16 inches of the <br />subsoil is very strongly alkaline yellowish brown and light <br />yellowish brown clay loam. The lower part to a depth of 25 <br />inches is very strongly alkaline very pale brown loam. The <br />upper 25 inches of the substratum. is very strongly alkaline <br />very pale brown sandy clay-loam. The next part to a depth <br />of 58 inches is very strongly alkaline I i ght ye I I c-w i sh brown <br />clay loam. The lower- part to a depth of G'Z inches or more <br />is very strongly alkaline pale yellow sand. <br />Included in this unit are small areas of Tisworth soils, <br />Battlement soils, and Cowestglen soils. <br />Permeability of this Giarch soil is very slow. <br />Available water capacity is moderate.. Effective rooting <br />depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is medium, and the <br />hazard of water erosion is slight. The hazard of soil <br />blowing is high. A seasonal high water table is at a depth <br />of 4 to 6 feet in April through June. The hazard of <br />flooding is rare. <br />
