INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM <br /> TO: DAN HERNANDEZ <br /> FROM: JANET BINNS <br /> SUBJECT: GRASSY G RE O IORK <br /> DATE: 08/10/98 <br /> I am including a copy of Byron's interoffice memo regarding his observations at <br /> Grassy Gap when he accompanied me on my inspection June 16, 1998. His assessment <br /> at the time indicated that while the Pit 4 pond (Pond 4), may not be the "cause" of the <br /> mudslide located immediate below the pond on the slope, it may be a contributing <br /> factor in the slide. <br /> Items needing repair at Grassy Gap mine: <br /> Repair either Pond 4 riser or removal of Pond 4. Landowner had requested that pond remain. If repair <br /> can be completed adequately on pond, four we ought to try to keep it. If we cannot adequately repair <br /> pond to keep from adding to the slope instability, then pond removal may need to worked out with the <br /> landowner. <br /> Repair/reinforcement of pit 4 access road "hairpin"turn. <br /> Repair and riprap of ditch along access road to pit 2/3. <br /> Management of spring water flow across pit 2/3 access road. <br /> Bond remaining after work performed by DMG in 1997 is: $16,559.00 <br /> C:\jhb\grassydih.doc <br /> Attachment-Byron Memo 6/30/98 <br />
