Bowie No. 2 Mine, pg. 3
We made additional inspection stops at the following: B seam portal pad, excess.spoil fill from
the B seam portal pad development, main topsoil stockpile along the haulroad, coal wash plant,
west end of the train loadout area including the french drains area which appeared stable, pond B
and alluvial wells, and ponds C & F at the coal waste disposal area.
Surface water runoff at the coal waste pile was not a problem and topsoil stockpiles appeared
stable.
The Hubbard Creek fan & shaft development site was inspected (Development of the pad is
being completed. Rock / gravel will be hauled in to provide durable surfacing for the pad and
access road. There is an excavated rock, and rooting media storage area along the access road.
Runoff from this area is not a problem. Silt fencing is in place and functional along Hubbard
Creek and the access road. The access road needs durable rock surfacing to be functional. The
pad was extremely muddy from the snow melt, but runoff did not appear to be a problem.
Drilling for this site is being planned for January 2008.
Pond J was dry, well vegetated, and stable. Topsoil and/or rooting media from the fan site
development is stored on the south side of large topsoil stockpile at the train loadout. Pond K is
well vegetated and has a no discharge history since the rail loadout development.
We did not inspect the former Mine No. 1 loadout facility. Structural demolition is complete on
the loadout, and final grading is in progress.
This concluded the field inspection. Please address any questions concerning this inspection
report to Henry Austin at haustin&osmre.gov or to (303) 844-1400 x1466.
