coordinates and the date. GPS coordinates were recorded in degrees, minutes and seconds
• of latitude and longitude utilizing the WGS 8-~ datum. A Garmin Etrex Vista GPS unit
.vas used. Coordinates and other pertinent data were recorded in tield notes. Photographs
were taken with Kodak and Canon digital cameras. F,ach photo-point in the report is
labeled as exemplified below. Photo-points which were included in the ?006 report are.
referenced for ease of comparison to the. ?007 report. In addition, general conditions such
as vegetative ground-cover, height of plants, encroachment by native shrubs and (orbs
and site fencing arc shown below the label of each pictu--c.
For example: the following site shows: Site name, picture direction, ~,
~, reference to 2006 report, and general vegetative conditions .rt the site.
SOM-3E. ~^ _ ~ (PQ 10, 2(106) Ground-
cover 75-90%, grass 18-2-t", 3' curly dock (Rti-ner cripus), some chokecherry-
snow~herrv encroachment.
A vast majority of the roads and drill sites under reclamation, ur being considered for
reclamation in this report are in the Gambol oak ((hrercll.t~ ,~~cnnhelii) vegetation
community with predominant understory species being chokecherry (Prurnls ~•il•~~irua-lcr),
snowberry (S1~n~lhhol-ic•crrpas• ol•c~ophihl.c or ratllner!iJ~llillsl, and servieeherry' (~-1 nrc~lallrlrier
alail~~lia).
:\ lesser number of the disturbed areas arc in the aspen (Pvl~lrlus trE~nrrlloiclc,s) vegetative
• t~ pe, ~yith aspen as the dominant overstory tree species, and an understury comprised
E~rimarily of chokecherry, snowberry and serviceherry.
i~ very fe~a of the sites and roads lie in, or traverse Douglas tir (1'serrclntsu~~u nlrn_esiij,
narrow-leaf ci~ttonwood (Popuhrs angu.~•tiJ~~licr), or box-elder (Acer neglulclvl.
1"he most common noxious weeds noted on the project were Canada thistle (Clrsnnn
urr~~rtse (L.1 Scv~~. j, which was widespread throughout the area, and cheatgrass (Brrlmuc
tectul~llm L. j, which was (inuid on the Lone Pine Siie. Stinging nettle (l 'rnca gracrlr,~~j,
although not listed as noxious, was found along the Deep Crock Mesa Road.
A measure of successful reclamation over time is the extent to which native vegetation
invades openings caused by construction. For this reason, Gambol oak, snowherrv,
chokecherry and serviceberrv cncruachment is frequently mentioned in statements under
most photographs.
A subjective reclamation rating system ~~~as utilized which considers % growldcover,
height of vegetation and encroachment of native shrubs. (See Table ?: Vegetative Rating
Parameters) Ground cover was affi~rded more weight than either vegetative height or
encroachment since vegetative height can be so directly affected by seasonal cattle and
wildlife use, and encroachment occurs in such a dispersed fashion over time. Ratings
used are: 1': = Excellent, G = Good. F =Fair and P =Poor. Color codes are shown in the
• table to better delineate sites and ratings. The color code is: I~. Lilue, (i = Fellow, F =
White, P =Light Green (See: Table I: Ka "1'l.~VGS FUK f:"AC'H PHOTO-Pl)1.~'~~'7'
1ZF'C'LALA~IED 13h'l~'URE ?lXl<. j
