MOUNTAIN COAL COMPANY RECLAMATION
PHOTOGRAPH PROJECT 2007
Proiect Description
During the 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 field seasons, digital photographs were taken and
photo-points were established in several areas where Mountain Coal Company has
conducted coal exploration and development activities since 1996. This report follows
those from 2004, 2005 and 2006, making a comparison of reclamation on the various
sites possible. In 2007, photograph points were taken on 155 road locations and drill
sites. Field work was accomplished on May 9, 21 and 26, July 5, 6, 7 and 13, and
September 25, 2007.
The project is divided into 4 separate sections. (See Figure l: MCC RECLAMATION
PHOTOGRAPH PROJECT 2007)
1. The Reclamation Process shows typical methods for accomplishing reclamation.
2. Drill Sites And Roads Reclaimed 1996-2006. This section consists of areas where
reclamation was completed between 1996 and 2006. Drill sites accessed by the following
• roads are included: Dry Fork of Minnesota Creek Road, Upper Deep Creek and Deep
Creek Mesa Roads, Long Draw Saddle Road, Long Draw Road, West Flatiron Road,
West Point Road, RAV 1 Spur, West Bench Road, East Bench Road, Apache Rocks-
Jumbo Mountain Road, and Lone Pine Road. (See Figure lA -Dry Fork Area, Figure
1 B -Thermal Event Area; and Figure 1 C -Lone Pine Area)
3. Sites Constructed Prior To 2007 Not Fully Reclaimed. This section of the report
shows areas which have not yet been reclaimed, although some of the sites have
undergone interim reclamation. Most of these sites are located along the West Flatiron
Road and on West Flatiron itself; however, scattered sites are situated on the Upper
Sylvester, Long Draw Saddle, Apache Rocks-Jumbo Mountain, Box Canyon, Box
Canyon West and Sylvester Gulch Roads. (See Figure lA -Dry Fork Area)
4. Sites Planned For Construction In 2007. These are sites and roads which were
planned for construction this field season, and in fact, some of the locations were built.
Photographs were taken and photo-points were established during the permitting process;
therefore, most of the areas shown are in apre-construction condition. These locations
are accessed by the Dry Fork of Minnesota Creek Road, West Flatiron Road, and
Sylvester Gulch Road.
(See Figure lA -Dry Fork Area)
From one to several photographs were taken at each photo-point. Flagging, pin flags or
native materials were used to mark photo-points in areas where reclamation has occurred.
. No markers were placed in areas which have not been reclaimed. A dry ink board and
marker were used to show the photo location, azimuth the picture was taken toward, GPS
