shall not be exposed to ultraviolet light and/or sunlight for more than 14 days. Geotextile shall be
elevated off the ground during storage.
3.04 GRANULAR BASE AND RIl'RAP PLACEMENT
A. Granulaz base materials shall be spread uniformly to the lines and grades shown on the drawings in
maximum 6 inch lifts in accordance with CDOT Standazd Specification 304.04 and 304.05. Placing
of material by methods which could segregate particle sizes will not be pemutted. Any damage to the
' surface of the subgrade, bedding sand, or geotextile fabric shall be repaired before proceeding with
the Work. Except where bedding is used to repair damage to the subgrade, compaction will not be
required but bedding shall be finished to a uniform surface, free from mounds and windrows.
' B. Riprap stones and granulaz base shall not be dropped on the geotextile fabric from a height greater
than 3 feet, or a height equal to or greater than that which damages, tears, or negatively impacts the
quality of the geotextile fabric, whichever lower.
C. Granulaz Base shall be placed and compacted prior to placement of riprap. Granulaz base shall be
placed to the thicknesses and dimensions as shown on the Drawings. Granulaz base shall be
mechanically compacted to achieve flat, even surfaces for proper performance of the Work.
D. Riprap placement shall be in accordance with CDOT Standard Specification 506.03. Riprap shall be
' constructed to the lines and grades shown or established within a tolerance of 6 inches above and 3
inches below the prescribed grade, except either extreme shall not be continuous over an area greater
than 200 square feet. Riprap shall be placed to the full surface course thickness in one operation and
' in such a manner as to avoid displacing the underlying material. Placing riprap in layers will not be
permitted. The finished mass shall be free from pockets of small stones, clusters or lazger stones and
excessive voids. Placing riprap and granular base by dumping into chutes or by similaz methods
t likely to cause segregation will not be permitted. Distribution of various sizes of stones shall be
obtained during final placing, or by methods which will produce the specified results. Rearranging of
individual riprap stones by mechanical equipment or by hand will be required to obtain a reasonably
well graded distribution of stone sizes. CONTRACTOR shall maintain the riprap protection until
Work is completed in accordance with the Contract Documents. Displaced material will be replaced
by CONTRACTOR at no additional cost to COMPANY.
E. Riprap shall be installed prior to gate control stem installation. Temporazily remove geotextile,
granular base, and riprap for the purposes of installing the gate control stem and appurtenances as
necessary. Permanently reinstall displaced geotextile, granular base, and riprap following completion
' of the gate control system (see Section 02661), to the dimensions shown on the Construction
Drawings.
' 3.05 QUALITY CONTROL
A. CONTRACTOR shall establish and maintain quality control for Work under this section to assure
' compliance with contract requirements and maintain records of his quality control for all construction
operations including but not limited to the following:
' 1. Quality.
02375-6
J
