D. DOWNSTREAM DRAINAGE BLANKET ' 1. CONTRACTOR shall perform minor excavation as required for proper performance of the Work. ' E. TRENCH DRAIN 1. CONTRACTOR shall perform minor excavation as required for proper performance of the Work. 3.07 MATERIAL PLACEMENT AND COMPACTION A. Placement of fill materials will be performed over the existing dam and existing original ground. CONTRACTOR shall keep COMPANY informed of his operations so that proper inspection and testing can be implemented. No fill material shall be placed on frozen subgrade unless approved by COMPANY B. All materials used in the embanlrnient shall be placed in such a manner that mixing of the various materials with other embankment materials will not occur. If any cross- contamination occurs, CONTRACTOR shall repair contact at no extra charge. This is especially important at the contact between the downstream drainage blanket and the downstream earth buttress general fill. As construction is proceeding up the downstream face of the dam and the left buttress, CONTRACTOR shall maintain drainage blanket material at a minimum height of 3 feet above the downstream earth buttress general fill. C. Due to equipment operation or weather conditions, the surface of the prepared foundation, or the fill or, upstream clay blanket, may become too dry or smooth to bond properly with the next succeeding lift. Evidence of this condition is a dusting or crusting of the surface. CONTRACTOR shall moisten or scarify the surface before the next succeeding lift is placed if this condition develops. D. New fill materials shall be keyed into existing materials so that a uniform connection between the similar materials is made. E. CONTRACTOR shall finish all areas to the lines and grades shown on the Contract Drawings and as approved by COMPANY. All finish grading shall be accomplished using normal mechanical construction equipment. The fmal constructed dam tops shall be covered and fmished with Fill material as shown in the Contract Drawings. Finish grading costs of all materials, shall be included in the cubic yard cost for hauling and placing fill material and will not be paid for separately. ' F. Each layer of each zone of the embankment shall be constructed continuously in an approximately horizontal lift for the width and length of the embanlanent at the elevation of the layer.
