encountered. CONTRACTOR shall examine the site and the records and decide for <br />himself the extent and character of material which will be encountered. <br />' 3.03 PREPARATION <br />' A. CONTRACTOR shall make arrangements to locate all existing Utilities and <br />Underground Facilities in the azeas of Work. If any are to remain in place, <br />CONTRACTOR shall provide adequate means of protection during earthwork <br />operations. <br />B. CONTRACTOR shall protect structures, fences, utilities, wells, and other facilities from <br />damage caused by settlement, lateral movement, undermining, washout and other <br />' hazards created by earthwork operations. <br />C. Surface water shall be controlled sufficiently to permit placement of embanlnnent <br />' materials in the dry. <br />D. Surface Preparation of the Existing Dam <br />1. Those portions of the existing dam being raised shall be bladed to remove all <br />surface material not meeting the specifications for each individual zone prior to <br />' placing fill. Bladed and excavated material shall be placed or hauled to the <br />designated spoil areas as determined by COMPANY or COMPANY's <br />Representative. <br />' 2. All cavities or depressions caused by erosion or the removal of trees and/or stumps <br />from the existing dam shall be filled with the same type of specified material as <br />would be incorporated into the overlying portion of the embanlrnlent. <br />' 3. CONTRACTOR shall remove all vegetation and topsoil from existing downstream <br />dam slopes that will be constructed on, as requested by COMPANY. Material shall <br />be stockpiled and reused on the new completed slopes. CONTRACTOR will be <br />paid for by the usage time in hours for each type of equipment as approved by <br />COMPANY. <br />' 3.04 SITE CLEARING, GRUBBING AND STRII'PING <br />A. Clearing, grubbing and stripping shall consist of removal of all brush, trees, stumps, <br />' boulders, topsoil, and debris from those areas where the new embankment is to be <br />constructed, if necessary. Spoil from the clearing and grubbing operation shall be <br />pushed or hauled to the designated spoil area. Topsoil from the stripping operation shall <br />' be pushed or hauled to designated stockpile azeas to be reused as random topsoil in areas <br />as directed by COMPANY and for the purposes of restoration set forth in Section <br />02950. Plant materials, including brush, from the stripping operation shall be pushed or <br />' hauled to designated stockpile areas to be reused as mulch in azeas as directed by <br />COMPANY and for the purposes of restoration set forth in Section 02950. Burning <br />shall not be allowed without the authorization of COMPANY, and in accordance with <br />' Laws and Regulations. <br />' 02300-7 <br />
