' such construction, all as required by the Contract Documents. Also referred to as "the <br />Work". <br />1.03 EXISTING STTE CONDITIONS AND USES <br />' A. The project STTE is located at Monument Dam on the Minnesota Creek located in Gunnison <br />County, Colorado approximately 8 miles east of Paonia in Section 32, Township 13 South, Range <br />90 West. The State Dam Identification Number (DAMID) is #400413 in Water District 40 of <br />' Division 4. The dam impoundment area (lrnown as the Minnesota Reservoir) is approximately <br />1440 feet long and 50 feet deep. <br />' B. Horizontal and Vertical Datum: The CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS show existing and <br />proposed conditions relative to the horizontal datum as established by Mountain Coal Company <br />and vertical datum NAVD88 (approximate). <br />C. The dam itself is constructed from earthen fill, primarily clay, silt and sand. It is approximately <br />50 feet high, 360 feet long and 340 wide. An unpaved access road is located south of the existing <br />crest of the dam. The existing dam crest is at elevation 7340.0 feet. The existing emergency <br />spillway crest is at elevation 7330.0 feet. <br />D. An existing water intake pipe is located on the upstream side of the dam. An existing water outlet <br />' pipe is located on the downstream face of the dam. A valve is located in the pipe between these <br />two points. Control of the valve is via a turning rod in a CMP riser. <br />E. The existing dam is classified as a small, high hazard dam as defined by the State of Colorado <br />Department of Natural Resources Division of Water Resources -Office of the State Engineer <br />"Rules and Regulations for Dam Safety and Dam Construction." Modification of the existing <br />dam structure shall be in accordance with the requirements of, and performed with the <br />authorization of the Colorado Division of Water Resources -Office of the State Engineer. <br />1.04 WORK COVERED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS <br />A. The overall scope of the Work which is more fully described in these Contract Documents <br />includes, but is not necessarily limited to, famishing all labor, tools, equipment, and materials <br />necessary to: <br />1. Mobilize and demobilize labor, equipment, materials, and temporary facilities. <br />2. Obtain necessary permits prior to performing the Work. <br />Site preparation of both dam construction areas and borrow pit areas (including surface <br />preparation of existing dam and stripping topsoil) <br />4. Protect existing instrumentation. <br />5. Protect and not alter the existing dam spillway. <br />6. Furnish and install interim erosion and sedimentation control during construction. <br />01110-3 <br />
