Section - 2.05.3
Sanborn Creek Mine Facilities -See the General Facilities Maps, (Map 2.05-M1), and the Facilities
Detail Maps, (Map series 2.05-M3x). (This section left for historic reference since the Sanborn Creek
mine has been sealed.)
A. Sanborn Creek Mine Haul Road -The haul road accessing the Sanborn Creek Mine
portals begins in the Elk Creek Facilities area Exom the main haul road and extends
approximately 4,500 Eeet to the northeast. The haul road, which is approximately 20
to 30 feet wide, and the Sanborn Creek Mine overland conveyor are contained within
the 30- to 40-foot road corridor. The gravel-surfaced road is used fox transportation
of men, equipment, and supplies and may be used in an emergency or if the
conveyor belt is down Eor haulage of coal, coal refuse, or mine development waste.
Additional details on mine roads are provided in the subsequent roads section.
B. Sanborn Creek Mine Overland Conveyor -Coal is transported from the Sanborn
Creek Mine portals by an overland conveyor. This conveyor previously extended to
the existing dump station, however, modifications to coal handling systems in
conjunction with the 1995-2000 mine expansion increased conveyor capacity and re-
routed the conveyor discharge to the Stacking Tube No. 1 headhouse. The Sanbom
Cteek Mine conveyor has a capacity of approximately 2,300 tons per hour consisten[
with the maximum annual production rate of 4,800,000 tons annually. The conveyor
design includes partial covers for dust control, walkways for inspection and
maintenance, and emergency stop controls in compliance with applicable MSHA
safety regulations. Additional details on coal handling systems are provided in
subsequent coal handling section.
(Note: During 2003, the portals were sealed and 4100' of beltline and 5 transfer
points removed.. 585' of beltline and one transfer point remain near Stack tube 1.
The road was widened and 2.34 acres of backfilled and regraded hillslope seeded.)
C. Declines to the C-Seam -Three declines, including the intake, beltline, and return
entries and the associated concrete, stmctuxal steel and corrugated metal face-up
structures extend from the finished grade at the Sanborn Creek Mine portal area
down to the C-Seam. The declines extend about 70 feet, in hor~zonta] distance, from
elevation 6,057 to 6,044. During 1995, an additional rock slope was developed from
the C-seam to the surface. The rock slope extends about 200 feet in horizontal
distance, from elevation 6,042 to 6,097 at the surface.
IVIIt78 2.05-18 Rev. May 2006
