NOTICE OF INTENT TO EXPLORE <br />INVOLVING REMOVAL OF 250 TONS OR LESS OF COAL <br />JEEP TRAIL COAL EXPLORATION PLAN AREA <br />PAGE 7 <br />Land Description <br />All lands covered by this plan are Federally owned surface and minerals. These lands <br />are described as follows: <br />Township 12 South, Range 91 West, 6th P.M. <br />Section 27: S/2, NW/4, S/2NE/4 <br />Containing 560 acres, more or less. <br />Surface ownership is shown on Map 4, Surface Ownership. Coal ownership is shown on <br />Map 5, Sun`ace Ownership. <br />Topography <br />The terrain of the XPA is moderately rugged. Elevations vary from approximately 8,200 feet <br />in the northwest corner of the XPA to 6,560 feet where Hubbard Creek exits the XPA for a <br />maximum relief of about 1,640 feet. Topography is shown on Map 2, Topography & Drill <br />Hole Locations. <br />The XPA boundary includes a portion of Iron Point Gulch and Hubbard Creek. The XPA <br />also includes the ridge that separate Iron Point Gulch from Alder Creek. <br />• Travel access is gained from the south through the Bowie No. 2 Mine. The major access is <br />a road along Terror Creek, Terror Creek Reservoir then southeast to the drill site on Iron <br />Point. <br />Surface Water <br />The XPA is located on the north side of the valley of the North Fork of the Gunnison <br />River, known locally and less formally as the North Fork River. The North Fork is <br />part of the Colorado River system. It is a perennial stream, formed by the joining of <br />Anthracite Creek and Muddy Creek approximately nine miles east of the plan area, <br />immediately downstream from the Paonia Dam and Reservoir <br />• <br />
