Natural Resource Trustee
P.O. Box 191
Victor, Colorado 80860
Re: Request to temporarily store fresh water in the External Storage Pond Permit # M-1980-244.
Dear Mr. Goodrich:
The Division has received your request to temporarily store fresh water in the External Storage pond, to be
utilized as make up water for the Valley Leach Facility. The Division has reviewed the engineering letter
from Dr. John Luppo ,about the volume of water that can be safely stored before exceeding the
probabilistic water balance model for the valley leach facility. As long as the storage is on a temporary
basis, the Division will grant the request as explained in Dr. Luppo's letter and as described in the Table
attached with your letter.
Both the Division and CC&V understand the importance of this pond as an Emergency Storage Facility for
processed water, from the Valley Leach facility, after it meets the agricultural standard for WAD cyanide.
The Division request's CC&V keep a log in the External Storage pond shed, that shows how much fresh
water is stored, so it can be looked at during the monthly site inspection.
If you have questions, please contact me at (303)866-4072
Sincerely,
Berhan Keffelew
Environmental Protection Specialist.
Cc: Tony Waldron, Via Email
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver Grand Junction f)uranQn A.-r~.,o ~n,t In~~rt.,o AAinoc
