4-62 <br />C1 13 to 26 inches; pale brown (lOYR 6/3) sandy <br />loam, brown (lOYR 5/3) moist; moderate fine <br />granular structure; soft, very friable, slightly <br />sticky and slightly plastic; calcareous; many fine <br />and very fine roots; top 2 to 2~ inches is a <br />darker clayey layer; pH 7.6; diffuse boundary. <br />C2 26 to 37 inches; pale brown (lOYR 6/3) sandy loam, <br />brown ('_OYR 5/3) moist; weak thin platy parting to <br />fine granular structure; soft, very friable, slightly <br />sticky and slightly plastic; calcareous; about 5 <br />percent gravels at 33 to 35 inches; many fine and <br />very fine roots; pH 7.9; diffuse boundary. <br />• <br />C3 37 to 67+ inches; pale brown (lOYR 6/3) stratified <br />sandy loam and sands, brown (lOYR 5/3) moist; moder- <br />ate medium subangular blocky parting to fine granu- <br />lar structure; slightly hard, very friable, non- <br />stocky and non-plastic; calcareous; about 5 percent <br />gravels at 47 to 50 inches; very few lime accumu- <br />lations occurring as mycelia; pH 7.8. <br />The surface horizon is very fine sandy loam or loam. Peaty hori- <br />zons occur between 3 and 18 inches. Gravelly or very gravelly <br />lenses are encountered below 40 inches. The control section is <br />mostly fine sandy loam or sandy loam with 1/2 to 6 inch lenses of <br />• coarser or finer textures, but clay typically averages 5 to 18 <br />
