• CMP culverts encased in concrete in the channel bottom. The culverts convey low
flows under the road and in the event of high flows going over the top, erosion is
prevented by the concrete. Straw bale dikes are installed along each edge of the dip
section to settle and filter roadway drainage before it goes to Coal Creek. A 24" CMP
culvert crosses the road near the turn off to Light Use Road 2 which conveys runoff
from the area between the Roadside North Portals and the CRDA 2 as well as part of
the runoff diverted around the Roadside North. A 30" CMP culvert which crossed the
road and leads into Pond 10 carries runoff from the east collection ditch on CRDA 2.
Three 35 x 24" CMP culverts cross the road carrying runoff from the collection ditch on
the west side of CRDA 2. A 72" CMP was installed in 1994 where the road crosses
Coal Gulch. The design for these drainage structures is included in Appendices 13-1
and 13-2.
•
i
Surfacing -The roadbase for this road appears to be approximately 12" of pit run
gravel. The surface of the road is 3/4" roadbase gravel.
Maintenance -The portion of the road leading to CRDA 2 is watered regularly during
use and graded as necessary. Mg-CI is applied to the surface once or twice a year to
reduce the watering requirements. When grading the road the silt deposited on the dip
section is graded off and the bales are replace as necessary. When access is used to
Cameo Borrow Area No. 2 ,rFoad maintenance will extend to these sites.
Structure
Location
Construction Dates
Haul Road 5 CRDA 1, Exhibit 9A,
(Formerly Access Road # 6)
1982
Description -This road is approximately 3,200-feet long extending from the east side
of the Highline Canal Bridge to the Cameo Refuse Disposal Area (CRDA) No. 1 where
a temporary road extends up the side of the pile. The eastern 1,200-feet of road
follows an existing county road. Powderhorn upgrades and maintains the county road
as necessary and will leave it in the upgraded condition. The construction and
maintenance of western 2,000-feet of this road is shared with Public Service Company
of Colorado (PSC) because they use the haul road to access their ash disposal site.
This road will remain in place for PSC's use.
Design and Construction -The alignment of this road follows a County Road for
about 1,200-feet then apre-existing road to PSC's ash disposal site. The grade on the
road ranges from 7-10% and averages 5%. Cut and fill slopes are approximately 2h:1v.
The roadway is approximately 20 to 30-feet wide. Figure 13-2 is a typical cross section
for the design of this road.
T13-2-4 (Rev. 1 /00)
