23. Hours of operation:
The proposed hours of product offsite hauling will depend upon the time of year.
However, it will normally start around 6 A.M., and run until approximately 7 P.M.
24. Dust control:
Water trucks will be used to control dust on haul roads and unpaved production areas as
needed. All production and processing equipment will use pollution control methods
designed for their particular application and as approved by the Air Pollution Control
Division, Department of Public Health and the Environment. Water for this use will be
obtained from the LandownerlApplicant/Operator's own water rights with approval
obtained from the Office of the State Engineer, Division of Water Resources, Department
of Natural Resources as appropriate.
25. Sources of water:
Potable water is available at the Southwest Farm headquarters located at the proposed
mine site. This source will be the same for all associated site operations. 'The Operation
will be dry mined and a slurry wall will be constructed to exclude ground water. This
structure will therefore prevent the typical evaporative loss of exposed ground water if
the operation were wet mined. The Applicant/Operator will use their existing water
rights from the Applicant/Operators irrigation wells, and the Excelsior Ditch to augment
any evaporative loss due to the dry pit operations and for dust control. Prior to beginning
mining operations, the existing approved water uses for the Southwest Farms sod
operation will be converted to the above proposed mining operation uses and approved
by the Office of the State Engineer, Division of Water Resources, Department of Natural
Resources.
A source of high quality water will be required for construction of the slurry walls in the
East and West Pit areas. It is believed at this time that available ground water and/or
water from the Excelsior Ditch are of adequate quality and availability to satisfy slurry
wall construction specifications. Specifically, slurry wall water specifications typically
require a source of water that is of moderate pH (6 - 8), hardness less than 250, not have
excessive turbidity, or have high magnesium content, and is generally free of oils and
organics.
