pounds is a tailing material composed predominately of silica. <br /> The tailing is transported in a water slurry via tailing delivery <br /> pipelines to deposition areas north of the mine site. The tail- <br /> ing sands and slimes settle out on the tailing surface and the <br /> water is decanted and pumped back to the mill within the recycle <br /> industrial water circuit. <br /> Major components and facilities of the Climax mining <br /> operation. are the ore body, open pit, open pit waste dumps, <br /> underground mining, crushing and milling, tailing deposition, <br /> industrial water circuit and aggregate mining, and are briefly <br /> described in the following sections. <br /> 2. 1 MINING AND RECLA14ATION TIMETABLES <br /> • The Climax Mining and Reclamation Plan has been devel- <br /> oped in relation to the time sequence of land disturbance associ- <br /> ated with the two basic mining methods utilized at Climax and to <br /> the correlated time sequence of land reclamation. To effectively <br /> portray the planned sequence of land disturbance and land reclama- <br /> tion, mining and reclamation activities have been broken into six <br /> time intervals and treated as Phases I through VI . The mining <br /> oper_a�ion presently affects 2, 941 acres plus an additional 318 <br /> acres disturbed prior to 1969 but unrediisturbed since. Ultimately <br /> 4,421 acres will become affected at one time or another during <br /> phases of the mining operation.
